PrayerNook.com was a Christian social site where people of faith could send and receive prayers from their prayer partners. Because of the social functionality it was built on Liferay Portal CE, with custom portlets built in Vaadin.
Vaadin is a Java project that pulls web UI development back into the back end server code. A transpiler dynamically produces the Javascript that is served to the browser. That makes it much easier to create rich web interfaces than trying to write all the required Javascript by hand.
Prayernook.com seems to be under new ownership now, which is why this line is here.
The Vaadin framework is clean and a great tool for complicated webapps built on Java.
